Healthy Pasta Recipes for Dinner
Pasta with Herbs and Italian Chicken HERE'S WHAT TO PICK UP: Fresh pasta, fresh herbs (try basil, oregano and parsley), parmesan cheese, italian marinated chicken breasts. TO PREPARE: Cook chicken (grill, broil or pan-fry), boil pasta. When pasta is done, toss with olive oil just to coat, chopped herbs, a tablespoon or two of parmesan cheese. If you like, lightly brown a clove or two of chopped garlic in a teaspoon of olive oil to add to pasta. TRY SERVING WITH: A bag of mixed green salad with chopped tomatoes and lowfat dressing. HERE'S WHAT TO PICK UP: Penne pasta, jar of spaghetti sauce, sliced mushrooms, a green pepper, parmesan cheese. Just lightly saute the vegetables with a small splash of olive oil and some garlic (or garlic salt). Cook pasta. Add vegetables to spaghetti sauce and serve over cooked pasta; sprinkle with parmesan. TRY SERVING WITH: Tossed salad and whole wheat baguette. name="muchrav">Mushroom Ravioli HERE'S WHAT TO PICK UP: Look for a refrigerated or frozen ravioli with a mushroom filling, and your favorite spaghetti sauce. (Because these are stuffed with mushrooms instead of cheese, they are much lower in fat. And it really taste good. If you don't like mushrooms, look for chicken ravioli that can also be lower in fat) TRY SERVING WITH: A bag of salad and breadsticks name="crabalf">Light Crab Alfredo HERE'S WHAT TO PICK UP: Refrigerated fresh fettuccini, light alfredo sauce, mock crab, tomatoes. Cook pasta according to directions, add crab to heated pasta sauce. Top with chopped tomatoes and parmesan cheese.. TRY SERVING WITH: A slice of french bread sprayed with lowfat butter spray (such as I Can't Believe It's Not Butter) and sprinkled with garlic powder; broiled. name="angelhairpomo">Angel Hair Pomodoro Option 1: (quickest): Cook 12 oz. angel hair pasta to package directions. Drain 1-2 cans of recipe-ready chopped tomatoes (there are several tasty varieties in stores these days - with garlic, oregano and other great seasonings), heat in microwave. Serve over pasta, top with parmesan cheese. Optional add-ins for more veggie power: onions, green peppers, mushrooms (sauteed in cooking spray, wine, or splash of olive oil). Option 2 (involves some chopping): Dice 3 cups fresh roma tomatoes. Add to saucepan. Add 2 T. chopped fresh basil, 1-2 T. olive oil, 2 cloves minced garlic. heat through, serve over cooked angel hair. Top with fresh grated parmesan cheese. See Option 1 above for add-in vegetable suggestions. TRY SERVING WITH: Steamed zucchini or asparagus or green salad and breadsticks (if desired).
